We have employed the services of DZ Carpentry for numerous renovations to our 85 year old house in Stratford. These renovations included a new garage, a renovated washroom and a major attic renovation with new, large dormer window.

We have been very happy with our experience with DZ Carpentry.  Dave is a great contractor to work with from every angle of the job.  He is very realistic with his early budgeting numbers. He continues to keep the lines of communication open throughout the project so that everyone involved knows what to expect next, and where you are in the process.  He is a friendly face that comes to the site, almost every day, to see how things are progressing and to answer any questions or concerns. He is in constant communication with his team and the homeowner throughout the duration of the project.

Every member of the DZ team is polite, courteous, and extremely meticulous.  The members of the team come into your home, and treat your space as they would treat their own home.  They come to the site every morning to let you know they are at the job. They are willing to answer any questions that you may have about where they are in the job and what exactly they are doing at that time.  They are not only great carpenters, but also patient educators to the homeowner.

The DZ crew is not just a group of workers that come into your home.  They become a part of the family while the project is progressing, you can’t ask for a better team to have in your home.

The circa 1910 addition to our 1859 Ontario Cottage was in need of renovation when we purchased the house in 2018. The kitchen, bathroom and laundry area had an uneven floor, the layout and traffic flow were awkward and the cabinets, windows, doors and flooring needed updating.

From our first discussions with Dave Zorgdrager, we were impressed with his good design ideas, understanding of older homes, enthusiastic attitude and emphasis on good communication.

The addition was completely gutted, the sag in the floor and ceiling was corrected and other structural problems addressed before the rebuilding began. Dave brought in an excellent kitchen designer, Chantelle McNeish, who worked closely with us, listening to our ideas along with accommodating our revisions and special requests.

We chose to have DZ custom make our cabinetry and are delighted with the results. The quality of craftsmanship is exceptional and the style compliments the older part of the house in details of molding and design.

From the first day we were impressed with the DZ crew. They were unfailingly polite, cheerful and hardworking. They kept the disruption and dust to a minimum and cleaned up the work area every day. They arrived ready to go every morning and let us know if they were going to be late. Every day we got an update of what to expect in the next few days. We were continually involved in decisions. We felt totally comfortable with them in the house for the duration of the project.

Good communication with the contractor and crew is essential in large home renovation projects. We were pleased throughout the process not only being informed but, consulted and our concerns, wishes (and changes of mind!) respected and addressed.

All aspects of the work met our expectations and we have no reservations in recommending DZ. We are delighted with our new kitchen.
